2004 Japan Trip and Homestay

Every year students from the Silver Creek Thunderously Hip Japanese Program (SCTHJP) take a trip to Japan to visit the wonderful students and families of Korakukan High School in Okayama, Japan. This relationship, begun several years ago by Mr. Rushton Hurley, has grown into a strong connection--arguably one of the jewels out of the many activities in which SCTHJP students may partake. From April 5th to April 12th, 6 students traveled to Japan. Kyoto’ÄîJapan’Äôs ancient capitol--was the students’Äô first stop in Japan. They stayed there two days and visited such sites as Kiyomizudera and Sanjuusangendou. Next, the students moved on to their home stays in Okayama. In past years, students have met the mayor, been guests of a Zen master at his temple, and for this year the students took a day trip to see the Atomic Peace Park in Hiroshima. All in all, this trip represents a not-to-be missed opportunity for the serious student who wants to learn and have fun in a foreign country.
