Every year students from the Silver Creek Thunderously Hip Japanese Program take a chartered bus down to Los Angeles for the honor and priveledge of taking the international Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). This test, given on one day around the world by the Japan Foundation and the Japanese Government, consists of a Reading Section, a Listening Section, and a Chinese character (kanji) section. Students who pass the exam are given a certificate ranking them based on their skill with the language. Many college students never take this test. This year, Silver Creek took 36 students...
Each student spent hours of class time and more hours outside of class preparing for this exam. Of course, it's not all study, study, study at Silver Creek. The two night, three-day trip finishes up with a half-day trip to the famous Santa Monica boardwalk to watch breakdancers and Mr. Hall juggling on the street for pennies. There's also the annual dinner at the legendary Delores restaurant!
