Every year students from the Silver Creek Thunderously Hip Japanese Program (SCTHJP) take a trip to Japan to visit the wonderful students and families of Korakukan High School in Okayama, Japan. This relationship, begun several years ago by Mr. Rushton Hurley, has grown into a strong connection--arguably one of the jewels out of the many activities in which SCTHJP students may partake. From March 28th to April 4th, 9 students traveled to Japan. Kyoto, Japan's ancient capitol--was our first stop in Japan. We stayed there two days and visited such sites as Kiyomizudera and Sanjuusangendou. We also added a new stop this year, the wonderful Nijo castle. Next, we moved on to our home stays in Okayama. This year we were given an extensive tour of Okayama Castle and its famous garden, Korakuen. As we have done for the last three years, we also took a day trip to see the Atomic Peace Park in Hiroshima. All in all, this trip represents a not-to-be missed opportunity for the serious student who wants to learn and have fun in a foreign country.
