2004 Japanese Language Proficiency Exam

Last December, SCTHJP students traveled to Los Angeles to take the internationally recognized Japanese Language Proficiency Test. This test, given on one day around the world by the Japan Foundation and the Japanese Government, consists of a Reading Section, a Listening Section, and a Chinese character (kanji) section. Students who pass the exam are given a certificate ranking them based on their skill with the language. Most high school students never take this test because it is too difficult. This year, 62 students from Silver Creek sat for the exam, breaking the previous record of 43 students. Additionally, for the first time approximately half of the students took the test at the new test location in San Francisco. This sets a precedent for future years, and we are currently discussing the possibility of arranging some sort of trip to San Francisco instead of Los Angeles.
