Last December, SCTHJP students traveled to San Francisco to take the internationally recognized Japanese Language Proficiency Test. This test, given on one day around the world by the Japan Foundation and the Japanese Government, consists of a Reading Section, a Listening Section, and a Chinese character (kanji) section. Students who pass the exam are given a certificate ranking them based on their skill with the language. This year, 72 students from Silver Creek sat for the exam, breaking the previous record of 62 students. Additionally, for the first time all of the students took the test at the new test location in San Francisco. Even more importantly, 83.3% of the students passed their respective exams! This pass percentage also sets the new standard for Silver Creek and far exceeds the worldwide pass rate of around 52%. Lastly, it must be mentioned that for the first time, a Silver Creek student passed the Level 2 exam, only one step away from the highest honor awarded. Khoi Pham, my first period TA, you are to be congratulated--banzai!
