Every year, SCTHJP students travel to San Francisco to take the internationally recognized Japanese Language Proficiency Test. This test, given on one day around the world by the Japan Foundation and the Japanese Government, consists of a Reading Section, a Listening Section, and a Chinese character (kanji) section. Students who pass the exam are given a certificate ranking them based on their skill with the language. This year the number of SCTHJP students taking the test grew again from 44 to 59, and we also enjoyed a very healthy pass rate of 75%. Given that the worldwide pass rate for this test hovers around 49-53%, we are quite pleased with the results for this year.
